4rth day of Mobility in Lyceé L’Oustal, Montastruc-la-Conseillère (Written by Sweden team)

The fourth and last day started with that all students followed their hosts to their lessons, where they among other subjects experienced French and Biology. In Biology, the students learnt about the climate and they spoke about the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.

After a short break, the students got to experience a much-appreciated lesson in sign language from a teacher who was deaf. He showed the power of sign language and how easy it is to understand one another even though the students were not talking to each other or speaking the same language. The students learnt phrases through sign language, but also what other countries look like in sign language.

Before lunch, each country assembled their students to conclude and evaluate the week, strengths and possibilities were discussed. The afternoon was free for the students, because of the farewell party in the evening.

In the evening, all students, hosts and teachers gathered in the school gym, where there was food. All students and teachers got their certificates of participation at the beginning of the party. The food was locally inspired. There were among other things sausages and mashed potatoes, which were cooked in the biggest saucepans that we have ever seen.

After dinner, there was a disco with music, a smoke machine and a laser show (!) All students (and some teachers) were dancing until they were sweaty. When the party was ending, everyone realised that it was the end of the week together and there were some tears and many kisses on the cheeks.

A week full of memories, thanks to everyone!

3rd day of Mobility in Lyceé L’Oustal, Montastruc-la-Conseillère (Written by Greek team)

On Thursday the 16th  of May the students worked together in international mixed groups on group project work, which our hosting school had arranged before the meeting

Morning activities started at 8.35 and lasted till 12 a.m with  the Dutch, German and three Italian students working on a kitchen project  while another group of Sweden, Greek and the rest of Italian students participated in a collaborative, game and sports tournament.

The students working on the kitchen project were introduced to a well equipped kitchen capable to invite up to 6 groups of  students. They were obliged to wear a kitchen apron, a hair net and  plastic foot pads for hygiene purposes. They were assigned to cook a traditional French recipe called  La Quiche Lorraine and  prepare the brioche dough for another recipe called Les mini Tropeziennes. This recipe was fulfilled by the group of students who worked in the afternoon on the kitchen project.

They were asked to work and mix together in groups of three students each one coming from a different country.  They followed instructions given on paper, collaborated and executed the recipe with success having fun and being proud of the result  Students tasted  the Quiche Lorraine pie, discussed about whether they liked it and served the pie to all teachers at school.

Alongside the group of Sweden, Greek and the rest of Italian students participated in a collaborative, game and sports tournament.

Students were divided into two groups with different nationalities through a game with a ball.

They were asked to cross an imaginary river stepping on imaginary rocks  represented by cardboards. Each team was on a different side of the river. Each time one stepped off a rock into the river the team had to start over again. Each student had to be stepping on a rock, never to leave a rock without being stepped on behind the first one crossing the river because a crocodile (a teacher) would remove the rock from the river making the task more difficult.  Students were placed in special roles. There was a student blindfolded, a pregnant one (with a balloon) and a student with tied hands. The task of crossing the river became more difficult and required asking for help and  collaboration between students. The photos below show highlights from the game.

The two teams managed to cross the river and each team with the help of each other was found on the opposite side of the river.

At the end of the game the students discussed about the game. How difficult or easy was it for each one, who was the one been grunting all the time, how did the students in the special roles feel. The students concluded that the game started off as a competitive game between the two teams on each side of the river only to realize that the only way to complete the task was, for the two teams to collaborate. Students were surprised to realize that at the end.

The same applies in real life, people start off competing with other only to realize that the best way to succeed a goal is for people to work with each other.

We all had lunch at the school canteen at 12 a.m Group activities started again at 2 p.m and lasted till 4 p.m

In the afternoon it was the turn of the Sweden, Greek  team and of four Italian students for a kitchen project. They worked in groups of three students of mixed nationalities and were asked to fulfill the recipe given in the morning of the mini Tropeziennes. They prepared the pastry cream and combined it with the brioche dough which was prepared by the morning group, in order to bake a set of mini Tropeziennes. Teachers participated as well.

The cooking project was an opportunity to work together and communicate over a common task in a language that was no one’s first language. It was a creative project with a tasteful result and an opportunity to learn about   traditional French food.

We left the kitchen to meet and taste the brioche mini Tropeziennes. French teachers presented us on posters other traditional French food and the places the food was coming from.

A poster with pictures of traditional food coming from each country participating in this Erasmus program was prepared by the school hosting us and students from each country were asked to present the food.

A booklet with traditional recipes coming from each country was prepared from the French teachers handed out to each teacher coming from the other countries.

Students returned to families hosting them at 5 p.m.

It was a full day and a fun opportunity for students to collaborate and come closer through the games, to create and learn about each other and others food culture.

Students from different nationalities,  setting a common goal, collaborating and coming to a tasteful result was a pleasant, playful way to relax, come together and get to know each other. Also a way to experience and appreciate different traditional recipes of France.


2nd day of Mobility in Lyceé L’Oustal,  Montastruc-la-Conseillère  (Written by German team)

15/05/2019    8.30 – 12.00

On the second day of our Erasmus adventure the pupils began with an interesting lesson of basic French. Not all of the students know French but they were quick to pick up the most important vocabulary they could use for everyday communication.

After this, the students split up in order to follow the class schedule of their host partners for the rest of the morning.

Lunch was at 12.00 in the school canteen.

After lunch we boarded the bus and went to visit the Augustins Museum in Toulouse. The visit to the museum was enjoyed by everyone. Firstly because of the beauty of the building itself and secondly because of the interesting exhibits of paintings and sculptures that range over centuries up to the present day.

After the Museum we walked round Toulouse and admired the many beautiful and elegant buildings in the centre. We stopped to look at the river Garonne and admire the city’s skyline. Our last stop was at the market in Place du Capitole, the main shopping area where we had some free time to browse and take in the atmosphere.

The students returned to Montastruc-la-Conseillère at around 6pm and our second day came to an end.
