After having spent the first night with families, students arrived at the “SEKUNDARSCHULE” school, with breakfast specially prepared for them.
This is the first time that students from six countries were gathered to share breakfast. After what students discussed and learnt to know each other.
At 9:30 am: official welcome in the large auditorium with welcome speeches by the deputy director and the director Mrs. Delker. The German pupils presented songs, music and dances specially prepared for us. After exchanging a few dance steps together, we visited the school until the end of the morning. As far as the students were concerned this visit took the form of a treasure hunt through the school.
From 12 to 1pm, lunch break in the cafeteria.
At 1:30 pm: departure by bus, direction Detmold for the visit of the monument “Hermannsdenkmal”. In groups, accompanied by a guide, we visited this site. This iron statue was built between 1841 and 1875 in honor of the warlord Arminius, called Hermann in German. The group was able to climb to the 1st floor at the base of the 53.5-meter tall statue and have a superb view of the Teutberg forest.
Back to school around 5:00 p.m the students joined their host families for the evening. For teachers, there was a cooking activity together at school. By pairs chosen at random we were able to prepare different dishes from each of our countries and share them together around a very nice table. This quite friendly moment allowed us to get to know each other better.
